Three Generations of Family Tradition and Innovation in Navajo Weaving
Yá'át'ééh dóó woshdéé! Hello and welcome to our web site! Our family has been weaving rugs for generations. Although our home on the Navajo Nation is one of the most beautiful places in the world, it isn't an easy place to live. Weaving has meant a lot to our family and has helped us pay for food, clothing and education.
Here is Emily's intricate Patchwork Pattern rug. Click on the picture for a larger view.
We had a great trip to Prescott, AZ today to attend the Smoki Museum Navajo Rug Auction. We sold several rugs, and we’d like to thank all of the people who bought them. We do have one large one left for you to look at. It’s by Emily and it’s based on a traditional patchwork quilt pattern. The pattern will look different depending on your distance from it and the angle that you view it from. It’s about 3.5′ x5′ and Emily is asking $1100. She will consider any reasonable offer. Contact us if you have questions about the rug.
10 month old Elijah's been scratching a rash on his face!
We had a great evening and enjoyed meeting a lot of the buyers at the Crownpoint Rug Auction. We had made some jewelry and had one of our Spider Rock design purses at our table. We also sold next year’s Weaving in Beauty calendars, which feature Laramie on the cover and some of our weavings on the pages. You can get an autographed copy from us if you’d like to and that will give you a chance to try out our Paypal shopping cart.
If you’d like, we will autograph your calendar!
Emily is busy working on a large commission for a collector. It’s a transitional design that is different from the others that she has done. Laramie is working on a weaving that is going to be made into a briefcase. She’s anxious to see how it turns out!
We have started to teach private weaving classes in the Chinle area, so please contact us if you’re interested! Of course we’re also getting ready for the holidays, like everyone else.
Below is a gallery of pictures from Friday night’s auction. We try to have work in the Crownpoint auction in the winter when other auction schedules are slow, so we’ll probably be there in January depending on how many weavings we have ready. Larissa and Laramie are both thinking about going to Diné College next semester!
Some of us girls will be at the Crownpoint Rug Auction this Friday night in Crownpoint, NM. The auction is in the gymnasium at the elementary school. The preview starts at 4 PM. We’ll also have a booth in the hall and will be selling some of our weaving and jewelry. See you there!
Laramie's graduation album is on her new site page
If you would like to see more of Laramie’s graduation pictures, you can find them on her page. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be adding a page for each of the girls.
Thank you for all the kind notes about the new design for our site. The redesign makes it easier to keep you updated on what we’re weaving. Right now, we’re busily finishing rugs for the Friends of Hubbell Native American Arts Auction and we’ll have some new Ebay items later today or on Friday morning.
Welcome to our redesigned site. We’re now using a blog format so that updates are easier for us to bring to you and we have access to some very nice tools for handling picture content. We are also adding a shopping cart so that you can buy directly from us. Look for some pictures from Laramie’s high school graduation album in the next day or so. Above, you can see a collage of our weavings and auction trips from last year!
